1.1.11 is a great day to start developing healthier habits!
As cliché as it may be, that’s exactly what I’m doing, with a focus on progress over perfection. And while I’m not the healthiest I can be, I am nurturing my wellbeing with a healthier lifestyle. I’m eating more nutrient dense foods, resting more, stressing less, cooking more, drinking less alcohol, and taking vitamins.. but I haven’t even scratched the surface.
A big mind shift thats helped me stay on track is not evaluating progress solely by short-term measures, but remembering to evaluate longterm success year over year. I found when I laser focused on the success of each task, life became an endless series of success and failures, with the latter being most predominant (and discouraging!)
At some point you have to ask yourself, who succeeds under constant scrutiny?
Micromanaging suffocates and discourages even the best of us. Freedom to try things, adapt to our liking, and incorporating into the bigger picture takes time. Yes, it takes time! Meaning it won’t happen overnight and definitely won’t happen if you don’t at least try, then try again!
My longstanding (and neglected) interest in nutrition was reignited when a recent health development slapped me in the face. Literally. After going to numerous doctors, allergists, and dermatologists, I decided it was time I learn how to help myself. Although a pair of doctors figured out how to manage it (20 months later) there’s no clear explanation as to why it occurs. Most likely hormones. But since becoming more conscious about what I eat, its effects on my system, and incorporating a cleaner, less hectic lifestyle, I use prescriptions much less frequently.
The short version… I’m tracking what I eat visually and wanted an easily accessible location to organize the helpful links, recipes and nutrition information I find.
But more importantly, I’m hoping to help friends, and anyone with an interest, to learn more and possibly adopt healthier choices that work for them.
Here’s to making each bite count.. be it for energy, comfort or because it tastes damn good!
xoxo
